6th Annual GSSS 2010:
The 6th year is hosted by the New Hampshire Storytelling Alliance At Stonewall Farm in Keene NH. The day begins with registration and continental breakfast at 8:00am and wraps up at 5:00pm with the keynote speaker's performance. The fee for the full day including breakfast and lunch is $15 per person paid upon arrival.
This year's keynote speaker is one of the 10 most intriguing people in Maine: storyteller, writer, performer, teacher, humorist Susan Poulin.
Then story swap groups of 6-10 people split off to their own space.
Swap circles share stories with a time limit of roughly 10 minutes per person. There is no pressure to tell. Some just listen. Discussion between stories is encouraged.
This year we offer a variation on the Swap called "The Mechanics of Storytelling" facilitated by professional storyteller David Neufeld. In this session tellers at all levels of experience have an opportunity to notice and employ methods, conventions, and strategies for weaving the net that captures their listeners. This "mechanics" swap session offers a chance to share and experiment with the nuts and bolts of storytelling. Its inclusion in the program gives participants the option of a "mechanics" roundtable or an open swap.
The swap atmosphere is informal and supportive - a relaxed venue for exploring storytelling for the first time or for trying out a new tale. Everyone has an opportunity to share at least one story and experiences interaction with two different swap circles - one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
Lunch is served from noon to 1:00pm and is included in your registration fee. Enjoy informal discussions, or explore Tin Mt. Conservation Center's buildings and hiking trails.
At 1:00pm the first of two storytelling concerts begins. Six tellers present six 3-5 minute stories. This is followed by another session of story swaps, ending around 3:00pm.
The second concert from 3:00-5:00pm is open to the public for a modest $5.00 admission fee and features 6 tellers sharing 3 minute stories followed by a performance by the keynote speaker Susan Poulin.
GSSS is open to people at all levels of interest in the oral tradition. Please join us in building New Hampshire's growing storytelling community.
