Come, sit down, let me tell you a story.

I will tell you tales of old and of new. I will take you on journeys to places you have fond memories of, or to places you have never been. I will take you to old places filled with God and to young places filled with love. We will go to the places of laughter and tears.

When I have told you all my stories, I will sit quietly and listen to your stories. And when we are through, we will sit together, quiet, in that space between dark and dawn and listen as the earth breathes her stories into the silence.

Come, sit down, let me tell you a story.

WRITING AND TELLING YOUR OWN STORY

YOU DON'T NEED TO BE A WRITER OR A STORYTELLER TO TELL YOUR STORY ALL YOU NEED IS A WILLINGNESS TO SHARE A BIT OF YOURSELF AND YOUR KNOWLEDGE.

When I was young I often begged my grandmother and grandfather to tell me the stories of how they lived and what they did. I wanted to know all about them and where they had been. I wanted to know about a time when things were easier or different. Now that I am a grandmother, I remember how important it is to pass on the stories. This class will help you write and tell your own story.

Designed as a 6 session course your group can began to develop your own stories and to learn to share them.

In this workshop we will explore the hows and whys of writing and telling your own story. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions and share your knowledge. You will have the opportunity to tell your story with the written or spoken word.

Workshop presented by Lauretta Phillips, Storyteller and Writer in cooperation with L.T.I.G foundation. A private foundation dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the traditional arts.

Also in cooperation with Taylor Community. To sign up for this workshop see your activity director.

Storytelling opens the door to literacy. With out oralcy there is no literacy.

This program is designed to help teachers and students prepare for the literacy tests by helping the students learn to write and tell their own stories. We will be using various tools provided in the Six Traits of Writing program and in Story Boarding, the techniques are consistent with students abilities in each grade level. Originally designed for grades K-5, this program can be adapted to students abilities in each grade level, K-12.

"Lauretta kept 50 4th & 5th graders enchanted for over an hour. When she was finished they still wanted more."
Mrs. Jessop, Hill Street School

"Picture this - A group of kids sitting around on bales of hay under the storytelling tent, At the same time a target shoot was going on a little bit away and a petting zoo was right across from from the tent. Still the kids remained sitting on the bales of hay listening to the storyteller. Lauretta was that teller."

"Your stories and the transition from one to the other in this program was seamless. The flow was excellent. The stories carried us to many different emotional places."
Wess Chauncy - Storyteller and Cheryl Sminard at the Corner House Inn.

"Last night you allowed your love for storytelling to shine through every word you said - yes I liked your story, but I really liked the way you told it - I believe you gave everyone there last night a true gift of yourself."
